Are Obsessive Fans Ruining the Internet? (from AfterElton.com)

“There’s this phenomenon of fans who become very proprietary, not just about the objects of their fannish-ness, but also their status in the fandom,” she says. “They always want to be the one who had the inside story, the inside contact, the latest cutting edge stuff about the show or the actors. There’s almost a need to be an object of famousness themselves.”

Some fans are just plan scary. Used to know a girl who practically stalked some sci fi peoples.

Oh I know… I’ve met (and experienced) some who were downright mental.

I’ve seen some manic blogs from people gushing over celebs they’ve met, including one that gave me extreme hate mail at one stage. Maybe it’s just me not being an autograph hunter or celeb chaser… but some are just weird. Especially the ones who pay for multiple photo shoots over the same weekend.
