Perfection.

26 June, 2010 (14:57) | Sermons | By: Reverend Helo

All of us see flaws in ourselves. From small acts of selfishness to thoughts and actions we regret to unspeakable evil deeds and a lot of us spend a lifetime in self loathing hoping to wash ourselves clean of our sin. Why?

As children we’re taught stories of good and evil. Morality tales from an outdated book that was massacred over time, the Bible. These tales are a pointer for the two sides, with God playing the good guy and everyone who opposes him as some form of evil demon. Opposing evil is apparently Gods will.

I oppose this way of thinking. With one divine being held up as a paragon of perfection. He isn’t something to idolise, nor is he someone watching over us to lead us all to redemption. There is no path to follow, no vision laid down, to divine plan. There never has been. He’s a force of nature. He doesn’t reward your rejection of sin nor does he punish the sinners. To him there is no good or evil, these are things we created ourselves out of own own human need. Or possibly just our stupidity. Either way. the sides of good and evil are merely a human creation that we hold ourselves up to.

Perhaps to some mindless fools I am evil and maybe I’m not the one you want to root for when things get rough. But like all of you I was created from His image and through that it’s been my realisation that he’s not our almighty judge. he’s sent me his angels to guide me through the dark path through life.

In that lifetime I have said and some some vile and unforgivable things. I am a sinner. Yet despite all my sins, I was chosen to be a voice for a power greater than myself.

Next time you act on a selfish thought or take the moral low ground you must keep in mind that you are what you are, and you are that way for a reason. Don’t fight your instincts to be yourself.

We all may be sinners, but that doesn’t matter. We are, all of us, perfect.
