Right, I made a bunchof sketches and jotted down ideas for these and they went through dozens of different variations. But I got bored and decided to make one of them, so instead of a crappy sketch from me, here’s a few pics.

Officers Uniform
This is one of the officer uniform variations. I wanted more reality, so I designed a good few different versions and this was decided to be the most common for Starfleet officers.

It’s a black and grey standard jacket with design elements taken from the First Contact and Khan era uniforms, with a few bits and pieces thrown in along with patches and such. A more practical utility belt was added for extra real effect, which can have a variety of things attatched to it including the Link and phaser holsters.

The usual pins are in the usual places – Communicator and rank pins are where you’d expect them. There’s also a third pin acting as a fake clip which designated seniority. No stripes for junior officers, one for officers, two for senior staff and three for command staff.

That makes more sense in the SKR system than traditional Starfleet.

Undershirts.
Two of the undershirt colourings. The grey is standard, the deep red is for command level officers. Other variations include a colour/department coded shirt with grey sides and dark for standard officers and crew. Which I haven’t bothered making.

The Link & Phaser
Imagine an iPhone mixed with a Tricorder. And thats that. The phaser is basically just a repainted Nemesis style thing. Holsters have been painted red on the inside as red is cool.

Reaching out to the Federation, hoping to bring some sense of order, the City of Sha Ka Ree is declared the unified city of peace for the alliance between the Federation and the Kolar. They invite a fleet of starships to joint their own military and work alongside them, offering Sha Ka Ree to the Federation as a symbol of their alliance.

Back in the Alpha Quadrant, the Klingons discover that Donatra had convinced the Romulans living under Klingon occupation to use the biogenic weapons against their captors. With this violation of the non aggression pact, Khal sends troops to execute every Romulan living in his territory, then begins a personal campaign, offering a seat on the high council to any Klingon who kills Donatra.

Captain Ch’Pok claims the seat, and Donatras head. Angered by the recent action of the Klingons under Khal, the Federation forms a temporary alliance with the Betazed to challenge the Klingons. Romulan refugees are offered commissions within Starfleet to help fight. But with the fight in Empire territory, the Breen break their alliance with the Federation to make a third surprise attack, this time on Vulcan.

In 2393, the Federations campaign to retake Vulcan fails but their aid given to the Imperials lead heir new Emperor to open the lines of communication for a peaceful alliance, hoping to one day help free Vulcan and unify their peoples.

While the Breen start offering non aggression pacts after the Klingons begin to calm their war front and cut their losses, the Kolar gives some strength to the Federation by offering contracts to build and design new starships in their territory.

By 2394 the Kolar had began to hold off the Breen on behalf of the Federation. As the Kolar Region grows in strength, becoming more valuable, the other regional commands of Starfleet begin to conduct their own forms of research and development, beginnig to shy away from ther central Command on Earth.

The Betazed Alliance reject the Breen as their defensive forces and focus their attentions on the Gorn, who have successfully annexed Klingon territory since they joined. The Breen retaliate with a final strike on Betazed before retreating to their prize win, the occupied Vulcan.

With things a little calmer in 2395, all the major worlds spend most of their time retreating to lick their wounds. The former Romulan Empire is divided between the forces claiming it over the past few years, with the Klingons refusing to budge, the Federation and Imperials sharing some space and the Betazed Alliance getting a small region to themselves.

The Breen continues to dominate small worlds off the Federations radar, making them too strong to oppose, even with the Kolar’s backup. The miscommunication between Starfleets regional commands make it impossible to form a solid plan of action and with them all having their own ideas on what to do next, the Federation ends up being just as chaotic as it’s neighbors.

In the following few years, the Romulans within Federation territory form their own state working alongside the Imperial State, but seeing themselves as unofficial Federation citizens while the Federation begins negotiating officially with the Kolar to bring hem into the Federation.

The Bajor sector’s command begins to secretly build their own fleet in the Gamma Quadrant with the intention of freeing Vulcan from the Breen. But instead find themselves fighting off the Borg.

The Klingons take the brunt of the Borg invasion losing several attack forces and their Chancellor, leaving them open to being attacked, once again, by the Breen in 2398. The Archon sector almost gets caught in the cross fire, but decide to take no stance against either side, instead just letting their enemies to damage to each other.

In the same year, the MACO’s uncover a plot within the Bajor Region to overtake Starfleet Command, a plot that is quickly extinguised with their leaders being brought to trial and command of the sector being handed to newly promoted Admiral Kira Nerys. Kira offers to help bring the Cardassians into the Federation as Federation Prime officially induct the New Romulan State as Federation members.

By 2403 the Kolar officially join the Federation and Sha Ka Ree is dubbed the Kolar Regon headquarters. The Klingons decide to send ambassadors to SKR while their war continued to rage with the Breen, hoping to find assistance. Both the New Romulan State and the Imperial State begin to show their loyalty to the Kolar Region as they hope to deflect the attention from the Klingons.

The key worlds and alliances within known space had become chaotic, distrustful and damaged. Even the Federation had become weak and isolated.

What they didn’t know then was that the Iconians had been watching. More than that, they’d been involved. Behind every decision made, every bad choice, every call for war or blood, there was an Iconian.

The Federation was just a theater of puppets to them and all the major worlds had fallen victim to their game. Every key world had fallen apart, giving the Iconians the foot in the door they needed to take advantage of a bad situation.

It was never a series of unfortunate events. It wasn’t a streak of bad luck or fate’s way of bringing an end to all these worlds.

The Iconians had a plan.

Edal Verra Kelal of the Nebri family of Nuran is elected as president in a quick election held in the opening weeks of 2388. His first official act as president was to reassign several Starfleet ships to be sent out to find new allies. With the Betazed Alliance becoming a threat due to their alliance with the Breen, he began to fear Starfleet would face further opposition and another was imminent. He made it clear that he was searching for new allies, new members, and would ensure the Federation was strong again.

In an unprecedented move, the Klingons give another blow to the Federation as they begin to capture and slaughter medical ships being sent to Romulan space. Romulan refugees taking resettlement on Federation worlds found themselves the victims of surprise attacks and slowly, the remains of the Empire began to turn to Donatra for help.

The MACO’s quickly responded to the situation, retaliating by taking out several Klingon outposts in Romulan space as well as engaging in battle at the new Klingon border. Caught in the crossfire, Donatra felt she had no choice but to side with the MACO’s to fight against the Klingons sending in her own fleet along with the Remans to fight the battle.

Losing a large portion of her fleet, Donatra surrenders after a few months, offering Khal the territory owned by the remains of the Empire in exchange for a non-aggression pact to be signed, vowing not to back anyone against them to protect her empire.

Throughout the second half of 2389, the Romulan Empire face their extinction as the Breen, the Gorn and the Klingons tear the remains of their worlds apart in order to gain control, with Andortella leaving the Federation for the Betazed Alliance who end up supplying weapons to the Gorn.

On the far side of Empire territory, the Federation finds some hope as the Kolar Alliance opens communication after centuries of closed borders and silence. With tensions rising in the space seperating their world, the Kolar opens it’s borders to Starfleet and offer themselves as the allies they’ve been searching for.

By 2390 a task force is assembled and sent to the Kolar to officially begin negotiations to maintain a permanent alliance after both Earth and Cardassia find themselves victims of surprise attacks from the Breen, sending a message that they are the dominant faction, that no one is safe from them.

Gaining more territory, the Klingons enslave a portion of the Romulan population. Using them as cannon fodder and referring to the area as ‘Klingon-Romulan Allied Territory’, they close their borders of their new land as they hold of the armies of the Betazed Alliace. Hoping to secure their lives and gain confidence over their new masters, the Romulan contingent of the Klingon Empire introduce the Klingons to their cloaked biogenic weapons plant, suggesting they eliminate the rest of the region and exterminate their enemies.

With the support of the Kolar, the Federation forced the Breen to retract from Cardassian space in 2391, but the war raged on all the way back to Earth. Paris was destroyed in one of their trademark surprise attacks, killing the President of the Federation.

With new weapons to play with, the Klingons begin random testing on unaligned planets not under anyones guard. While the Federation opposes the use of the weapons, they choose not to interfere until a new president is elected in fear of being their next target.

With Federation territory lost to the Betazed Alliance, Starfleet finds themselves cut off from their own command ad decides to build secondary command centres. Deep Space Nine becomes the command headquarters of the Bajor Sector and Starbase 128 becoming the home of the Archon sector. Starfleet Command establishes a unit to oversee all division operations as well as run a primary fleet, Federation Prime.

With three more worlds leaving the Federation, the Bajor sector becomes one of the most prominent, branching out their territory into the Gamma Quadrant and opening trade negotiations with the Dominion.

Going into communications silence with an angry Starfleet Command, Captain Lakotda of the USS Dauntless mobilised his rag tag fleet and quickly moved to get as many as he could to the safety of Donatra’s territory.

When the disaster hit Romulus, only a small percentage of the population remained.

While Lakotda was publicly praised for his actions, he was condemned in silence by Starfleet Command. Reluctant to make anything public, they halted his promotions, gave him a diminished role within the fleet and began to pressure him into retirement.

Donatra offered resettlement for the homeless population of Romulus, but many were still wary of Donatra due to the propaganda of Tomalok and Sela, so they vowed to rebuild the Empire on their own.

While the Klingons wanted to extinguish their Romulan enemies, Martok supported Donatra’s offer of resettlement, hoping to make formal peace with the Romulans. The High Council propose an invasion of the crippled Empire which he objects to. When he returned to Qo’nos he found himself surrounded by opposition. Khal challenged his position in the Empire, killing him in combat to take control of the Empire.

The Klingons rejoice as Khal chooses to invade not only the remains of the Romulan Empire, but calls for war on the Imperials and the Remans. An act which the Federation President refuses to sanction, despite Starfleet being in favour.

Khal banishes all Federation citizens and ambassadors from Klingon space in retaliation. The MACO’s are sent in to show the flag and warn Khal off while they collect their citizens, showing the Klingons they are prepared to fight them if they push the Federation too far.

With the MACO’s becoming an intimidating presence to some, their threats towards the Klingons began to drum up some concern on Federation policy and in 2387 it gave several words the excuse they needed to part ways with the Federation.

Initially hurt over their lack of attention from the Federation after they were occupied by the Dominion, Betazed continued to become distressed with the Federations lack of involvement with the destruction of Romulus and more recently with the MACO’s acting like school yard bullies. While Cardassia was applying to join the Federation, with the surprising support of Bajor, Betazed announced confidential negotiations with several key worlds, including Bolius and Benzar which resulted in them officially retracting their Federation citizenship and forming their own alliance.

The Betazed Alliance further upset the Federation by enlisting the Gorn as their protectors after a series of successful campaigns in Klingon space while Khal’s forces were preoccupied with their takeover of Romulan space.

The Tholians soon join the group, aiding the Klingons and gaining the attention of the Breen who, while being a strong ally, were only concerned with annexing Klingon space.

With the Federation facing chaos, the President steps down.

Despite a recent run of bad news, the Federation finally accepted Bajors application into the Federation as peace was made with Cardassia. It was deemed that the destruction of their homeworld and execution of countless innocents in the war was deemed as enough punishment. Not wanting to continue another era of hatred, the Vedek Assembly issued a blanket pardon to the Cardassian people, a move with gave the Federation enough confidence in both nations to bring the Bajorans in as well as offer the Cardassians the same aid as they did with the Bajorans after the occupation.

With the Bajoran Militia being absorbed into Starfleet, 2385 started with some optimism. The MACO division began to grow stronger as a defensive unit and Starfleet was taken off their post-Dominion war alert. Ships stropped their security patrols and began to conduct scientific and exploratory missions.

A paranoid and suspicious Sela begins to cut off ties with the Imperials. Becoming more introverted, she sends her fleet to the neutral zone where the MACO’s are still watching her. Cracking under the pressure, she issues orders to have them eliminated if they begin to become a stronger threat to her territory.

She soon begins to become distrustful, interrogating the Federation ambassador assigned to Romulus which only provoked a reaction from the watchful MACO’s. A firefight ensued across the border as the Federations military task force began to break through to save their Ambassadors, with both sides losing ships and personnel before the Romulans surrender, having lost faith in Sela.

With Romulus surrounded by MACO ships, escorted to the planet by Empire ships, Sela is forced out of Government and handed over to the Federation for torturing one of their citizens.

Without a leader on Romulus, Donatra began to offer aid to the people of the Empire as the MACO’s took Sela to Earth for trial, in an effort to gain some sway. She re-ignites the idea of bringing Romulus back as one nation under her leadership, offers the Remans true equality within the Empire and even reaches out to the Vulcans to bring their nation under their flag.

Despite the new found optimism and cooperation, the following year brought more disaster.

An unusual form of supernova caused a serious threat to the Empire. With the Vulcans owning the only chemical that can calm the star, the public ally elected interim Praetor reached out to Vulcan but neither side could trust each other. Leader of the Unification movement, Ambassador Spock, took control of the situation with the assistance of the Enterprise-E and Romulan miner Nero to take the chemical known only as ‘Red Matter’ from Vulcan and cure the star.

But they were too late.

The Federation declined to help with the situation. The President ordered Starfleet Command to help evacuate the nation from their various worlds, but they had their own agenda. Wanting Romulus to fall, they slowed their efforts to a halt to ensure the end of Romulus. But while they neglected to help, one of their captains began to gather a task force of ships from several nations as well as Starfleet to evacuate Romulus without Starfleet giving the green light.
