8 August, 2010 (12:00) | Brief History of Time | By: James Tyler

Going into communications silence with an angry Starfleet Command, Captain Lakotda of the USS Dauntless mobilised his rag tag fleet and quickly moved to get as many as he could to the safety of Donatra’s territory.

When the disaster hit Romulus, only a small percentage of the population remained.

While Lakotda was publicly praised for his actions, he was condemned in silence by Starfleet Command. Reluctant to make anything public, they halted his promotions, gave him a diminished role within the fleet and began to pressure him into retirement.

Despite a recent run of bad news, the Federation finally accepted Bajors application into the Federation as peace was made with Cardassia. It was deemed that the destruction of their homeworld and execution of countless innocents in the war was deemed as enough punishment. Not wanting to continue another era of hatred, the Vedek Assembly issued a blanket pardon to the Cardassian people, a move with gave the Federation enough confidence in both nations to bring the Bajorans in as well as offer the Cardassians the same aid as they did with the Bajorans after the occupation.

With the Bajoran Militia being absorbed into Starfleet, 2385 started with some optimism. The MACO division began to grow stronger as a defensive unit and Starfleet was taken off their post-Dominion war alert. Ships stropped their security patrols and began to conduct scientific and exploratory missions.

A paranoid and suspicious Sela begins to cut off ties with the Imperials. Becoming more introverted, she sends her fleet to the neutral zone where the MACO’s are still watching her. Cracking under the pressure, she issues orders to have them eliminated if they begin to become a stronger threat to her territory.

Part Two.

Eight months after Khitomer was re-taken, the Federation began to offer aid to the Empire once again, trying to aid it’s weakened state. An order from the president which the admiralty of Starfleet Command strongly opposed. Not only did they not want to aid an Empire that they couldn’t trust, even when they were allies during the Dominion War, but with Bajor being a key world in the Federations structure, they felt they shouldn’t be ignoring the fallout of that war as Bajor continued to put pressure on Cardassia to release war criminals.

Despite the offer, Tomolok urged the Praetor to decline any help from the Federation, a move which only caused further riots and political uprising within the Empire. Not only were the civilians strongly opposed to their government, but high ranking officers within the fleet were switching sides which forced them to turn against their lords and masters, swinging the war in Donatra’s favour.

With the Romulans turning down aid, the president is finally convinced by Starfleet Command to take action on the Bajor-Cardassia situation. The aid offered to Romulus was humbly accepted by Cardassia and as well as bringing medical supplies and industrial replicators, they began working together to rebuild Lakarian city, decimated by the Dominion before their withdrawal in the closing hours of the war..
